Campaigning is challenging, but there are many examples of really good campaigns around the world which have met these challenges successfully, so we work with dozens of brilliant activists from around the world to share knowledge and experience.
We don’t apply a standard methodology or a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. We develop Campaign “Clinics”, tailored support and mentoring that responds to the gaps and needs of the organisations with which we work.

Dastan Kasmamytov, LGBTQ+ activist, adventurer, mountaineer and software engineer, who lives currently in Germany. He is originally from Kyrgyzstan and has strong connections to his home country and its LGBTQ+ movement. Dastan has a long history of queer activism both within Kyrgyzstan and internationally. Bin Xu (she) is a dedicated LGBT rights activist in China. In 2004 Bin founded Common Language, a support and rights group for lesbians, bisexual women and transgender people in China. In 2008 Bin Xu con-founded Beijing LGBT Center, and served as its executive director from 2009-2010.
Berfin Atlı (she), a Kurdish and queer feminist activist, is the Culture, Art and Academic Studies Coordinator at the Social Policy, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Studies Association (SPoD), which works on LGBTI+ rights in Turkey. She also coordinates the Alliance for Narrative Power, an alliance to combat anti-gender narratives. Below are some examples of the work we have conducted
Russia
Sogicampaigns has been providing support to Russian campaigners since 2020. We have developed a resource center in Russian and our programme officers facilitate strategic discussions and capacity development for a community of 200+ campaigners, inside and outside Russia. Each year, a hybrid on/offline fellowship programme brings together 15-20 campaigners over a learning journey lasting several months. Since 2025, the program has expanded to include post-Soviet Russian-speaking countries.
Latin America (Regional)
Our partner organisation Derechos Humanos y Diversidad has developed a full-fledged regional sister programme to Sogicampaigns, with its own set of resources, adapted to the regional context. Every year, DHD carries out hybrid on/offline fellowship programs that bring together campaigners from the region over 6-months long processes.
Türkiye
Through the Impactful Campaigning for Change (ICC) Fellowship Program, implemented for two consecutive years, SOGI Campaigns and local partners have built Türkiye’s first structured fellowship to strengthen campaigning capacities among LGBTI+ activists. The program has so far supported and graduated over 40 fellows, creating a growing national network of LGBTİ+ activists and organizations interested in campaigning. Combining online learning, group mentoring, and small implementation grants, the ICC Fellowship enhances advocacy and communication skills. Several online courses have been fully translated and locally adapted into Turkish, providing accessible, context-sensitive learning resources that empower a new generation of campaigners across the country.
We conducted a fellowship for 12 organisations. The programme consisted of online learning, collective coaching, webinars, and a small grants programme. Fellows received implementation support during the small grants phase.
Commonwealth countries
The Kaleidoscope Trustcommissioned us to carry out 1-1 online mentoring sessions for 10 of their partners. The sessions involved a tailored response to each organisation’s needs and expectations in building campaigning strategies.
With support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Free to Be Me program provides support to LGBTQI+ organisations in 12 countries over 5 years. Sogicampaigns is one of 3 core technical partners to this programme that is lead by HIVOS, with Positive Vibes and ILGA World as other consortium members.
Sogicampaigns focuses on supporting organisations to develop and carry out public advocacy plans over a 5-year span.
Indonesia, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ukraine, Uganda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe
The PITCH program (Aidsfonds/Frontline Aids/Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) commissioned us to carry out a comprehensive capacity building project on Communications for their partners in nine countries. Training was adapted to local contexts, developed in local languages and delivered by local experts with support from the global sogicampaigns team.
Due to Covid-19, training was transformed into a 10-lesson online course, and delivered with mentoring support by local trainers.
We worked with the Dutch development agency HIVOS to produce a global report on best practice in public campaigning. The report includes seven case studies in animation format.
With funding from UNDP, we provided 18 months of strategic support to local orgnisations in the four countries to develop public campaigning strategies. This support involved initial capacity building on campaign communication, and support in conducting social research and in developing narratives and frames.
Access the “SOGIE Messaging” toolkit that the initiative developed. It provides a step-by-step description of the process and includes useful tools that can be adapted to different contexts.
Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia
We provided support to the Eastern European Partnership project set up by the Swedish LGBTQI+ federation RFSL to strategise a regional campaign. We worked together to define the joint focus and the frameworks for developing local campaign strategies.
Asia (Regional)
We established a partnership with the regional network of young LGBTQI+ activists ‘Youth Voices Count’, to strengthen a regional community of young campaigners, and brought together ten lead activists over a fellowship programme.
Western Balkans and Turkey
For several years, we organized workshops during the annual meetings of the sub-regional alliance ERA covering the Western Balkans and Turkey, to facilitate cross fertilization while developing capacities on specific issues related to campaigning, such as digital engagement, framing or storytelling.
Haiti
With support from the Dutch national LGBTQI+ organization COC, twenty grassroots Haitian activists met up for a one-week workshop and training course on strengthening public outreach capacities. A major focus was on how to build strong and resilient communities. The workshop was developed in French and Creole.
Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia
We organised for the regional organization Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality a series of 3-day residential training workshops in Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia on public communication strategies (delivered in Arabic, English and French).
Asia (Regional)
In 2019, the Salzburg Global Seminar invited us to structure their Asian regional meeting for over 40 LGBTQI+ activists around the idea of campaigning. We then helped facilitate the one-week workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Middle East North Africa (Regional)
In collaboration with smallmedia.org, the nine modules of the online course on campaign communication have been adapted to Advocacy Assembly platform format and translated into Arabic and Farsi.
India
We delivered a one-week of residential training on campaign communication to a group of influential LGBT leaders from across India. A strong Training of Trainers component helped the participants create their own training courses for their respective regions.
